I know times are hard, uncertain, and more trying than ever before but I am coming to you all in humility to say we truly could use your support...let me explain.

We are only four years old and we are so grateful for the generous grant support we have received from the UU Funding Program and the UU Women’s Federation (xoxo, thank you! and sorry if I missed anyone) that launched us and sustained us through early covid times.

Now, it is time for this baby to leave the nest and fly! But we are not stepping out into the empty air. We are stepping out into community, and care that is rooted in reciprocity, stewardship, and ... maybe a little spare change?

Where will your money go?

We are raising funds to increase our programming, so we can continue showing up for you. At the moment, this community-based ministry is running on an executive director's part-time appointment paired with full-time hustle. Now, imagine what we could do with fully-compensted support!!!!! We want the bucket to overflow into the community, just as we already personally Sow Seeds in the sistas we share in our newsletter.

We have programming planned for every month next year, including The Vagina Monologues in the Spring (rewritten to prioritise Black and Queer voices), Global Worship Services (with our pilot being hybrid in Africa), and Circle Dinners that allow members to become leaders and host hybrid or local dinners. Rev. Crystal (she/hers) is an interfaith minister and "trap chaplain".

Her virtual chapel, Church of the Bando, is a liberated space for global spirituality, thoughtful inspiration, grief counseling, body-positive education and trap karaoke.

Rev.Dr. Qiyamah
Rahman

she/hers

Emeritus Elder Director (EED)

Rev. Dr. Qiyamah A. Rahman, prior to ministry, served as the first Black female district executive with the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Southeast Region, formerly known as the Thomas Jefferson District.

She was ordained and fellowshipped in 2007 and is an alumna of Meadville Lombard Theological School where she served as the Director of Contextual Ministry and Senior Lecturer from 2008–2012.

Mission

Mission : To empower the presence, amplify the voices, and create connections for Black Unitarian Universalist women, girls, and femmes.

Vision: We envision a thriving community where Black UU women, girls, and femmes are seen, celebrated, and resourced to live fully into their gifts and leadership within Unitarian Universalism and beyond.

Sister Souurce, Inc. is the first and only organization dedicated to Black UU women, girls, and femmes. We are a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit based in Atlanta, GA, with virtual ministries that span the US, the Caribbean, and Africa (for now!). We have in-person opportunities coming to Atlanta and Delaware, to start, in early 2026. Our flagship events center Black, femme-identified community. We create spiritually expansive, Black-centered spaces that speak to those from various faith traditions and relationships to spiritual life. We believe in freedom, fun, and friendship.

We also host events that welcome allies and wider audiences to celebrate Black joy alongside us. Sister Souurce enters its next chapter fueled by clarity and courage, with Elder Qiyamah Rahman serving as Emeritus, and Rev. Crystal Saiyge stepping in with new visionary and adaptive leadership. We build upon a sacred legacy while opening new pathways for community building, storytelling, mentorship, international connection, etc.

We have individual memberships based on covenant, community, and conviction.

We also have congregational memberships that have access to extensive resources through Sister Souurce Media.

Both memberships will find worship-ready resources (even if that is just a playlist for your morning commute), fresh podcast episodes in your inbox, and mentorship. The mentorship also comes with funding opportunities for your various goals through our Sistar-to Sistar (peer-based) program, or our Sistar-to-Sistarlings (elder to young person mentorship) program.

Last but not least, our global partnership with UU congregations in Kenya affords US-based UUs and other allies to have cross-cultural connections and impact. We work with the council of churches of the UU Church of Kenya (UUCK) that encompasses six regions and 40 congregations. It is an exciting opportunity to cultivate a living tradition of resilience and liberation!

We honor the ancestors whose shoulders we stand on, while nurturing the next generation of leaders and voices in our movement.
