- Was one of fourteen children born to Roman and Annie Martin in Madison, North Carolina
- Graduated from Fayetteville State University in 1942; was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame there in 1989 for her role on the school’s basketball team
- Began teaching in the New York City Public Schools District, completing a master’s degree from the Teachers College of Columbia University during her career
- Married Isaac McNatt, a fellow North Carolina native who had moved to New York to study law at St. John’s University, in 1946; moved to Teaneck, New Jersey in 1960; they were married until Isaac’s death in 2009
- Member, UUA President’s Council and General Assembly Planning Committee
- President, International Association of Liberal Religious Women
- Enjoyed bicycling and tennis, playing competitively until she was in her 70’s, and avidly following the careers of Venus and Serena Williams
- In 1971, along with her surviving siblings, established the Roman and Annie Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund
